Mr. Swartz is Chairman/CEO and Managing Broker of harVestco, LLC.  He is also Co-Founder of harVestco Agricultural Properties, LLC.

In addition, Mr. Swartz is a Managing Director and Co-Founder of Agrarian Capital, LLC that focuses on private equity investment in agribusinesses located in the United States.

Mr. Swartz has established a network of farm and ranch owners across the United States, along with a network of realtors, investment bankers, financial and tax advisors, and those actively involved in crop and livestock production. He also maintains constant contact with seed companies and chemical manufacturers and suppliers.

Mr. Swartz served on the board of the University of Illinois Farm Tax School and Agricultural Law Education Foundation, Inc., and has served on the LeRoy Board of Education, Tri-County Special Education board, LeRoy FFA Alumni (charter member and past president), and he was an Advisor for the Illinois Junior Angus Association. 

Mr. Swartz maintains memberships in several professional organizations including the National Auctioneers Association, Illinois State Auctioneers Association, and National Association of Realtors. He has also been a former member of the Illinois Beef Association, National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (charter member), Illinois Angus Association (past president and board member) and American Angus Association (past board member).

Mr. Swartz attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He also graduated from the Missouri Auction School in Kansas City and earned the prestigious CAI designation from the National Auction Association Education Institute at Bloomington, Indiana.  He is licensed as an auctioneer in several states and in Illinois as a Real Estate Broker.

David Jones - Real Estate Sales Agent

Mr. Jones is a licensed Real Estate Salesperson with harVestco, LLC. He also provides outsourced CFO and Controller services for small businesses and start-ups in the Champaign area through his company, Empyre Consulting.

Mr. Jones most recently served as the Chief Financial Officer and Controller of Mid America Motorworks, a catalog marketer of parts and accessories for Corvette, Porsche and VW Beetle located in Effingham, Illinois.

Prior to joining Mid America Motorworks, Mr. Jones practiced Public Accounting with Ernst & Young, St. Louis and with McGladrey & Pullen in Champaign.  He was responsible for conducting and managing financial audits and other engagements from 1997 through 1999 and during an internship in 1996.  Clients served include: Graybar Electric Co. (Fortune 500 distributor); Royal Vendors (manufacturing); Bryan Memorial Hospital; The Jones Company (home construction); Tripos, Inc. (research software); Daughters of Charity (National Health System); IKON Office Solutions (copier and fax sales); AMDOCs (international software); Heartland Card (credit card processing); as well as several others.

Mr. Jones graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting (Project Discovery curriculum) from the University of Illinois, Champaign in 1997.  Just prior to graduation, he also passed all parts of the exam required to become a Certified Public Accountant.

Mr. Jones has additional experience including six years working for Continental Ltd., an automotive dealership in Champaign; and one year with Pulmocare Medical Supply assisting with customers, accounting, and home deliveries.

Ralph Smoot - Real Estate Sales Agent

Mr. Smoot is a licensed Real Estate Sales Agent with harVestco, LLC. He is also the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Heartland Communications, which provides computer and information systems consultation to small businesses in the Midwest.

Mr. Smoot’s 25 years of experience in business includes having sat on the Board of Directors of the Carol Stream Chamber of Commerce, which he was instrumental in helping to create. He also served on the Carol Stream Fire Protection District Board of Trustees. Further, Mr. Smoot was a member of the Board of Directors of the Carol Stream Association of Business and Industry.

Mr. Smoot has extensive experience in the training industry, having taught for over twenty-five plus years. He was the Training Director, Safety Director and Assistant Labor Relations Manager for Appleton Electric Company, which today is one of a number of industry leading brands of the EGS Electrical Group, a joint venture of Emerson and SPX Corporation.

Most recently, Mr. Smoot was a full time business professor of information systems for DeVry University and has taught for the College of DuPage, as well as an adjunct professor for Eastern Illinois University. He received a Master of Arts in Labor and Management from the University of Illinois, a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Psychology from Eastern Illinois University and an Associate in Arts in Psychology from Parkland College.

Mr. Smoot has been involved in the Real Estate industry since 1969, when he purchased his first home.

Dennis D. Spice - Commercial & Agricultural Real Estate Sales Agent

Mr. Spice is a licensed real estate sales agent specializing in commercial and agricultural properties for harVestco, LLC.

Mr. Spice is also Co-Founder of harVestco Agricultural Properties, LLC. In addition, he is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Institutional Advisors, Ltd. a consulting firm that he began in 1995 which focuses on small and medium size businesses in the United States.

Mr. Spice is the Founding Partner and Managing Member of Open Prairie Ventures I, LP, a $40 million venture capital fund that focuses on investments in Midwest based seed and start-up companies. Further, Mr. Spice is Managing Director and Co-Founder of Agrarian Capital, LLC, which focuses on private equity investment in agribusinesses located in the United States.

He was a member of the Board of Directors for Nims Associates, Inc., which was acquired in February 2004 by Keane, Inc. (NYSE: KEA), a leading business and information technology (IT) consulting firm.

In addition, he serves as a member of the Eastern Illinois University Lumpkin College of Business and Applied Sciences School of Technology Advisory Board. He is a member of the General Engineering Advisory Board at the University of Illinois. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the University of Illinois Employees Credit Union. Additionally, he is a member of The Economic Club of Chicago.

As a nationally recognized expert, Mr. Spice has testified on pension and investment issues before the Department of the Treasury, the Internal Revenue Service, the House of Representatives in Washington, DC, and the Illinois General Assembly.  He has written articles for several pension, finance and information system journals, including the Government Finance Review, and has been the subject of feature articles in The Wall Street Journal, Institutional Investor, Pensions & Investments and Crain's Chicago Business.  He also was a significant contributor to a book published in 2001 entitled, “Inside Secrets to Venture Capital” and the co-author of the March 2002 Journal of Financial Planning article entitled, “Venture Investing and the Role of Financial Advisors”.

Prior to founding his own company, Mr. Spice was Executive Director of the State Universities Retirement System of Illinois (SURS).  He joined the System in 1980 and was appointed Director in 1991, a position he held until 1995. As Chief Executive Officer, his responsibilities included the management of $5.5 billion in fund assets.  Before that, he was Employee Benefits Manager at Eastern Illinois University.

Mr. Spice grew up in northern Indiana on a second-generation dairy farm and then took a break from farming to serve nine years in the U. S. Marine Corps, including a tour of duty in Vietnam.

Mr. Spice's educational background includes an Associate in Arts degree from the University of the State of New York, a BA in Management from Eastern Illinois University, and an MBA from the Executive MBA Program at the University of Illinois.

Mr. Millage is a licensed Real Estate Sales Agent for harVestco, LLC.

In addition, Mr. Millage is President of GAM Properties, LLC, a residential, commercial and multifamily development firm. He has been involved in real estate and real estate development for the past thirty years.

Mr. Millage was an employee and eventually a partner in Hallbeck Homes for over twenty years. Further, he founded and managed Kitchen Concepts, an upscale custom kitchen design and installation business.

Mr. Millage’s entrepreneurial spirit in real estate has driven him to be a part of or the sole developer of many new home subdivisions and commercial parks in East Central Illinois. These include the residential subdivisions of Cherry Hills, Lincolnshire Fields, Ponds of Windsor, Boulder Ridge, Apple Tree, in Monticello, Illinois, and Windstone in Tolono, Illinois. His commercial parks include Westwood Trace and Staley at the Crossing. Further, Mr. Millage has not only built but managed several of these multifamily and commercial developments throughout the Champaign community.

Mr. Millage was a member of the Lincolnshire Fields Country Club Board of Directors. He was the former Chairman of the Showcase of Homes in Champaign. Also, he was the President of the Booster Club for Girls Softball in Champaign.

Mr. Millage received his Illinois real estate license in 1980.
